Target Audience – All Trust Staff, interested in palliative care and key topic areas.  

These sessions will be facilitated by guest speakers, providing education on current practice in their area of speciality. These sessions will help extend your knowledge in specific areas.  They will allow you to have access to specialist staff with background/interest in the topic discussed and will also create a forum to share practice and ideas to improve skill set.

Faith Miller is a trainee health psychologist working in South Tees. Faith has extensive experience of working with patients who have cancer and their families who are navigating loss and grief. In her presentation Faith will address the experience of loss and grief with our patients and their families. She will explore some of the concepts around loss and grief and give some helpful tips on how to support the grieving person. This session will be suitable for anyone working in clinical practice.

BD Bodyguard T Ambulatory Syringe Pump Training & use of Subcutaneous medicines in Palliative & End of Life Care, 01/04/2026, 09:00 - 11:30, Room 2, STRIVE, FHN

Target Audience – All qualified registered nursing staff who have responsibility for setting up BD bodyguard T ambulatory syringe pumps when caring for adult patients with palliative and end of life care needs.


This course will equip staff to be able to describe what an ambulatory syringe pump is and discuss the clinical reasons for its use. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate how to load a syringe into the BD BG T ambulatory pump and set it up to deliver the correct contents.


You will gain oversight of the common drugs used with a BD BG ambulatory syringe pump and using a case study you will have the opportunity to describe a symptom management approach.


The competency assessment must be completed in practice as part of this training.

Upon completing the MS Forms a member of staff will be in touch to confirm your 25 -minute practical session.

Verification of Expected Adult Death by Non Medical Practitioners, 08/04/2026, 09:00 - 11:00, Room 2, STRIVE, FHN

Target Audience – All Registered Nurses, Therapists working in an advanced clinical practice roles or trainee advanced clinical practitioner role are also eligible to undertake this training.  

This course will equip staff with knowledge of the current policy and procedures around verification of an expected adult death. Staff will then be required to complete a competency assessment back in practice and be signed off as competent. 

This course will be face to face and staff have written agreement from their line manager that this course is appropriate to their clinical practice.

Step 2: Assessment

You have a maximum of three attempts to pass, with a pass mark required of 70% required.
It is essential upon completion of the e-learning you MUST log out of the system,
otherwise your results may not be submitted.

Step 3: Booking practical training

To successfully complete the training you must gain a minimum of 70% (7/10).

Upon completing the Cannulation eLearning you will receive a certificate to your email address that you have used to complete the training.

You will then need to upload a copy of your certificate onto the Cannulation Part B Forms, which can be found using the below link:

You will also use this link to specify which date you wish to attend.

Upon completing the Form then you will receive an email from The Clinical Skills Team confirming which 25 minute slot you have been booked onto.

They are often the first point of contact for patients and their families, and the care they provide has a direct impact on dignity, comfort, recovery and overall patient experience. This programme supports competency acquisition within the band 2 role.
