This training session will cover the essentials of skin integrity and pressure ulcer care.

The learning objectives and content of the session as follows:

identify risk factors associated with impaired skin integrity including: disease, surface, mobility, incontinence and nutrition
describe reasons why these factors contribute to risk
refer to appropriate members of the interprofessional team when required throughout the patient journey
identify appropriate interventions to reduce and manage risk of pressure ulcer development
implement appropriate prevention and management strategies

This session looks at factors that affect wound healing, holistic assessment and wound assessment.

The learning outcomes and content of the session as follows:

describe the importance of wound assessment
recognise factors that may delay wound healing
recall the key steps in wound assessment
recognise terminology used to describe the wound
recognise changes in the individual's wound and surrounding skin and when to refer on for advice or support
record and report findings from a wound assessment
value the importance of good communication and interpersonal skills with the multidisciplinary team
