Catheterisation Practical Session-18-05-2026- ROOM 9 STRIVE JCUH

Please note that this is a Practical session, in order to be booked onto this session you will need to complete the Part A ( Please see below).

Once you have completed the Part A you will be required to email stees.clinicalskills@nhs.net in order to book your 20-25 minutes practical slot.

Part A: Catheterisation

Step 1:

Access and complete all e-learning training and videos by following the links below

Step 2:

Complete the assessment via MS Forms by clicking on the following links below.

You have a maximum of three attempts to pass, you need a pass mark required of 80% or 8/10 to move on to the face-to-face training.

 

Step 3:

On completion of the e-learning training you MUST email over a screen shot of your pass mark to stees.clinicalskills@nhs.net to inform the team you have successfully completed the training by gaining a minimum of 80% or 8/10.

 

Following this email, please call the team on 01642 854062 to arrange your face-to-face practical training. At this point, the team will ensure they have received your pass mark via email.

 

Once attended, you will complete the designated competency pack within your clinical environment.

  • Anatomy and physiology of the lower urinary tract
  • Insertion technique with step-by-step guidance
  • Troubleshooting common issues
  • Simulated assessment to practise and demonstrate competence

Ideal for bands 3 and above looking to build confidence and hands-on experience in suprapubic catheter care.

Lower Limb - Primary Care, 18/05/2026, 13:00 - 16:00, Room 1, STRIVE, FHN

Applicable for primary care, this training session will cover: Immediate and necessary care (Red flag assessment), venous vs arterial signs, oedema evaluation, skin assessment and the role and forms of compression.

N.B Compression bandage application and Doppler/ABPI training available separately - please speak to your senior to organise.

Practice Assessor Training Day 20-05-2026 08:30 - 16:00 Room 1, STRIVE, FHN

This training is for Registered Nurses, Midwifes and Nursing Associates to become New Practice Assessors under the NMC SSSA standards (2018)

You must be qualified at least 12 months to book onto this course and have completed the Preceptorship programme.

Aims and Objectives
By the end of the am session all learners will be able to:
•    Exhibit a greater understanding of meaningful interactions
•    Implement a person-centred approach to care
•    Understand the importance of accurate documentation and communication (Live interaction with MIYA/patientrack educator)
•    Identify appropriate care planning
•    Recognise the role of family and carers as partners in care (John’s Campaign)

By the end of the pm session all learners will be able to:
• Practice communication skills in a safe simulated environment to overcome filters/barriers
• Develop a communication strategy when dealing with complex cases :
     e.g. delivering bad news, escalation of care, telephone v/s face to face conversation
• Knowledge and confidence in using SPIKES model
• Improve teamworking and patient safety through advanced communication skills
