Aims and Objectives
By the end of the am session all learners will be able to:

• Identify appropriate care planning
•Recognise the role of family and carers as partners in care (John’s Campaign)

• Practice communication skills in a safe simulated environment to overcome filters/barriers
• Develop a communication strategy when dealing with complex cases :
e.g. delivering bad news, escalation of care, telephone v/s face to face conversation
• Knowledge and confidence in using SPIKES model
• Improve teamworking and patient safety through advanced communication skills

PART A  Cannulation :

Step 1: E-learning
Access and complete all E-learning training and assessment by following the links below:

you MUST Enrol using your trust nhs.net account.

Step 2: Assessment

You have a maximum of three attempts to pass, with a pass mark required of 70% required.
It is essential upon completion of the e-learning you MUST log out of the system,
otherwise your results may not be submitted.

Step 3: Booking practical training

To successfully complete the training you must gain a minimum of 70% (7/10).

Upon completing the Cannulation eLearning you will receive a certificate to your email address that you have used to complete the training.

You will then need to upload a copy of your certificate onto the Cannulation Part B Forms, which can be found using the below link:

Cannulation Part B: Booking your practical session.  – Fill in form

You will also use this link to specify which date you wish to attend.

Upon completing the Form then you will receive an email from The Clinical Skills Team confirming which 25 minute slot you have been booked onto.

Once you have attended your Practical session you will need to complete the designated competency pack (please see attached)

Step 2: Assessment

Complete the assessment via MS Forms by clicking on the following links below.

You have a maximum of three attempts to pass, you need a pass mark required of 80% or 8/10 to move on to the face-to-face training.

 

Step 3: Booking practical training

On completion of the e-learning training you MUST take a screenshot of your results with your name visible.

You will need to upload this screen shot onto the below MS Forms:

Venepuncture Part B: Booking your practical session. – Fill in form

Once you have uploaded your screenshot you will be able to select which date you wish to attend.

Upon completing the MS Forms a member of staff will be in touch to confirm your 25 -minute practical session.

 

Please note upon attending the practical session you will need to complete the designated competency pack. (please see attached)

Navigating Transitions: Simulated Enhanced Learning in Heart Failure End Of Life Care 07-09-2026 08:30am - 12:30am Room 42 JCUH

Aims

 

To enhance knowledge and skills in managing end of life care for a complex patient with heart failure.

To promote compassionate, patient centred care in a realistic clinical scenario.

 

Objectives

 

Identify clinical signs indicating that a patient with heart failure is entering the dying phase.

Demonstrate appropriate, compassionate communication with the patient and family.

Facilitate discussions around goals of care, setting appropriate ceilings and acknowledging the role of advanced directives.

Initiate timely palliative care interventions and escalate appropriately.

Reflect on the emotional and ethical challenges of end of life care.

 

Who can attend:

Registered nurses, therapists and doctors working in the community setting.
